• Must be legally registered organization able to receive grant funding from the U.S. • Must operate in lower-, lower-middle-, and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia • Must be local organization or partner with local organizations • Must address climate vulnerabilities in urban geographical settings, especially urban informal settlements • Must demonstrate clear potential to enhance climate resilience and reduce exposure to extreme heat • Projects should demonstrate strategy for scale or replication • Must show strong readiness to implement work in timely manner • Should include partnerships with institutions, government, and other critical entities • Co-funding sources preferred
3. Social protection mechanisms: • Climate-responsive social protections • Targeted climate-responsive financial inclusion programs • Early warning systems linked with financing for response measures
4. Other financial initiatives: • Approaches addressing climate impacts on sovereign credit ratings • Microfinance for adaptation • Fiscal approaches (city taxes supporting adaptation funds)
