We are soliciting short Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for designing, implementing and managing NbS in cities in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) that can advance climate action and human wellbeing. We are interested in supporting entrepreneurial NbS projects aimed at addressing urban climate hazards. Please note that this is not a funding application, but rather a way for our team to hear about your organisation and the work you do. We will follow up if we see a strategic fit.

Please keep in mind that the NbS mentioned below is an inexhaustive list and there may be actions that do not find a mention in this list. We are focused on work that could mitigate impacts and build societal resilience.
• Help pilot innovative and early-stage NbS emerging from the non-profit or private sector that may otherwise lack support. • Contribute to building the evidence base around non-governmental leadership in urban NbS which can then be scaled using public and/or private support. • Demonstrate a pathway to financial and operational sustainability of the intervention, product or service (whichever may be applicable).
We support projects that aim to generate impact on these dimensions: • Number of people reached • Number of people with improved resilience • Number of organisations improved • Financial assets mobilised • Environmental impact (tCO2 avoided/removed, km2 of land area protected, managed or restored)
Heat stress mitigation • Management of green spaces • Renaturing of rivers and lakes
Urban flood reduction and stormwater management • Green areas for water management • Floodplain restoration • Bioretention areas, inland wetlands, terraces and slopes
Drought management • Rainwater harvesting • Greening grey infrastructures: streets, roadsides, public spaces etc.
Carbon sequestrationUrban forest conservation and restoration • Wetland restoration
Protection of coastal assets • Mangrove forests • Salt marshes, sandy shores
Energy efficiency improvements in buildings • Green buildings: natural ventilation, shading and passive cooling
Criteria: • Commitment to climate action 30% • Track record 20% • Theory of change 30% • Strategic judgement 20%
