Call for Expression of Interest: Training Workshop on Strengthening Science-Policy Interfaces in Biosphere Reserves and UNESCO Global Geoparks by UNESCO

UNESCO, through its Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, invites qualified professionals from Europe, working in ministries and government agencies related to the environment, climate change, biodiversity, natural resources, spatial planning and disaster risk reduction to participate in a regional training workshop on “Strengthening Science-Policy Interfaces in Biosphere Reserves and UNESCO Global Geoparks”, to be held on 28-29 October 2025.

Short DescirptionUNESCO, through its Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, invites qualified professionals from Europe, working in ministries and government agencies related to the environment, climate change, biodiversity, natural resources, spatial planning and disaster risk reduction to participate in a regional training workshop on “Strengthening Science-Policy Interfaces in Biosphere Reserves and UNESCO Global Geoparks”, to be held on 28-29 October 2025.
Criteria(Please refer to the website for criteria and details)

Specific objectives include:
• Training participants on key global/regional agreements, including: Kunming-Montreal
Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and its indicators; National Biodiversity Strategies
and Action Plans (NBSAPs); Paris Agreement and national climate adaptation strategies;
Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction; EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030; EU
Landscape convention and the European Green Deal;
• Enhancing the understanding of how BRs and UGGps can contribute to national and
international environmental policies, and vice versa;
• Training participants on good practices in environmental data collection (including key
metrics), analysis, and reporting for Biosphere Reserves and UNESCO Global Geoparks;
• Training participants on standardised data management approaches to enhance the policy
relevance of BR and UGGp datasets.
